Question 7: Find the dimensions of kinetic energy.

Answer

The expression for kinetic energy is given by
kinetic energy

To find the dimensions of K-E on the left, we should find the dimensions on right.

Dimensions for m = [M]

As v is measured in ms-1, therefore, dimensions of v = [L]/ [T]

Therefore, dimensions on RHS = [M][L2]/[T2] = [ML2T-2] —– (Z)

= Dimensions on LHS

Thus, equation (Z) gives the dimensions of KE.
